SRCD Asian Caucus Call for Nominations for Awards (2020-2021)

Dr. Xiaojia Ge Lifetime Achievement Award – To recognize an Asian/Asian-American scholar whose research career spans at least 20 years and who has made distinguished scientific contributions to the field of child development.

Note: The scholar’s contributions can, but are not required to focus on topics related to Asian/Asian American families and children.

Recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award receive a plaque and a $250 cash award made possible by a generous donation by the Ge Family.

Outstanding Contribution to Research on Asian/Asian Americans -To recognize a scholar who has made outstanding and unique contributions to research on Asian/Asian American families and children. Anyone can be nominated, but must be a current member of the Asian Caucus to receive the award.

Outstanding Service Award – To recognize an individual or organization who has contributed significant service to Asian/Asian American families and children, Asian Caucus or who has represented the Asian Caucus at SRCD. Anyone can be nominated, but must be a current member of the Asian Caucus to receive the award.

Early Career Award – To recognize a scholar who is less than 10 years post-PhD or equivalent degree (or less than 8 years in an academic faculty position) and who has made important contributions to research on Asian/Asian American families and children. Anyone can be nominated, but must be a current member of the Asian Caucus to receive the award.

Recipients of the Outstanding Contribution, Outstanding Service, and Early Career Awards will receive plaques.

Outstanding Graduate Student Research Award – To recognize outstanding graduate student- initiated research (dissertation or other) on Asian/Asian American families and children. Nominations may be submitted at any point after the student’s graduation; however, the independent research must meet the following criteria:

  • Was conducted and completed while the nominee was enrolled in graduate school
  • Was completed or published in the past two years
  • Was submitted within a year of the nominee’s graduation

Recipients of the Outstanding Graduate Student Research Award will receive a plaque and a $500 cash award.

NOMINATION PROCEDURES

All nominations must be received by December 3nd, 2020. All materials should be sent together in one email to Stacey N. Doan, Ph.D., Chair of the Awards Committee, at stacey.doan@cmc.edu.

For all nominators: prior to submitting nomination materials, confirm that nominees are current members of the SRCD Asian Caucus (not required for the Xiaojia Ge Lifetime Achievement Award).

For the Dr. Xiaojia Ge Lifetime Achievement, Outstanding Contribution, Outstanding Service, and Early Career Awards, nomination materials must include a letter of nomination (500-1000 words max), a vitae, and two representative publications. Self-nominations are allowed.

For the Outstanding Graduate Student Research Award, nomination materials must include a letter of nomination (500-1000 words max), a vitae, and either a reprint of the published study or a 10-page summary of the research (if not published). The nomination letter must include a description of the student’s primary and major contributions to the research and the extent to which the research reflects the student’s independent work. The letter also should explain why the research is outstanding and merits the award. Self- nominations are allowed.
