Invited Paper Symposium

“Where are you really from?”, Discrimination and Psychological Well-being among Asian American Youth

Like other minority groups, Asian American youths experience discrimination. And, as with other groups, discrimination is harmful for Asian American health. This panel advances the field’s understanding of the nature and effects of discrimination by exploring different subcategories of discrimination, and examining the role of resilience and identity in coping with discriminatory experiences.

Presenters:

1. Brandon Yoo (Arizona State University), Michael F. Steger (Colorado State University), Richard M. Lee (University of Minnesota, Twin Cities), “Validation of the Subtle and Blatant Racism Scale for Asian American College Students (SABR-A2)”

2. Ram Mahalingham (University of Michigan), “Perceived Discrimination, Resilience and Psychological Wellbeing of Asian Americans”

3. Tiffany Yip (Fordham University), J. Nicole Shelton (Princeton University), Sara Douglass (Fordham University), “Ethnic Identity, Does it Exacerbate or Buffer the Effects of Discrimination?
